 FreeNAS 8 Released
FreeNAS 8 Released
FreeNAS, the free Network Attached Storage appliance, has been updated to version 8.0 with a new and improved web interface. We found the software easy to use and clear, but still buggy in some places. When we simulated a disk failure for example, the user interface didn't even indicate which disk had failed! We found other bugs too when adding and removing iSCSI Targets and Extents.

Because FreeNAS is Free, and chooses ZFS as it's volume manager (which was designed from the ground up with Data Integrity in mind), FreeNAS would have fitted perfectly into the portfolio of solutions that we offer to our clients. Sadly however, until it can get the basics right, we simply cannot recommend it.

2012-06-01 Update :  We are currently testing FreeNAS 8.2.
